Final Fantasy XIV won't appear on the Xbox 360
After seeing Final Fantasy XIII released on the Xbox 360, gamers were expecting the next addition to the series anxiously, hoping that it too will be released on the Xbox 360. However, it seems that Microsoft and Square Enix can't come to an agreement, and chances are high that we won't be seeing Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox 360!
Even though Hiromichi Tanaka, the series creator, tried his best to reach an agreement with Microsoft that was not possible. He is saying that due to the "closed" nature of Xbox Live, the next installment in the series won't be available on the Xbox 360, just on the Playstation 3 and PC.
This is not the first, and certainly not the last time, developers have encountered problems with Xbox Live, especially in the case of MMOs. You might be aware that Final Fantasy XI is however available on the Xbox 360, and you might be wondering what the problem is with Final Fantasy XIV, and why it can't be released on this console. The answer is that there are several differences between the two titles, and although they're not major, they are enough to be an issue and cause the problem with Xbox Live.
Square Enix is still talking with Microsoft, so things might change, but they are not very hopeful! Unless they reach some sort of agreement, gamers will have to either invest in a PC, or purchase a Playstation 3 console to play Final Fantasy XIV.
Even though Final Fantasy XIII was not received as well on the Xbox 360 as it was on Playstation 3, due to its lower resolution movies and the fact that it came on more disks, it still sold an impressive number of copies!
We hope Square Enix and Microsoft will come to an agreement, one way or another, and everyone can benefit from it. Gamers would be getting their favorite series on their favorite console, and Square Enix and Microsoft would be selling a lot more copies due to the larger number of platforms the game would be available on!
